THE JUGGLER has become my graphic identity. Because life is interaction, which creates the balls we juggle. They are the many issues and aspects of our lives, whether personal, spiritual, business, or social. Some are large; some small. Some are rubber, and others made of glass. With so many objects in the air at a time critical decisions usually need to be made quickly. If the issue is rubber, it can be dropped and it will probably be caught when it bounces back up. But the glass balls are fragile and need constant attention; family, faith, health. If you drop them, they'll break...and you suffer the loss. Then you have to clean up the mess, while keeping all the other balls in the air.

BIG D ZIGN is the Dallas-based design studio of Karen Howard, myself; designer, illustrator, artist, teacher. Big D zign was a natural transition for me from the world of advertising and marketing. After years of climbing that unending ladder, I found myself as Creative Director for an agency in Chicago, where I spent hours each day in enless meetings and little time creating. It was time for a change. And so, in 1994 I set out on my own, to create a studio that had the right balance between creativity and marketing; to juggle with fresh ideas and stretch the bounderies of communication, while keeping my feet firmly planted in research. BigDzign lives to create dynamic, effective graphics that stand the test of time.
